Our History

Trillium United Church was born out of the amalgamation of First Grantham and Mountainview United Churches in June of 2022.  This followed a previous amalgamation of First and Grantham United Churches in 2004.  The name of the new community of faith, Trillium, was chosen as a symbol of the three founding churches. All three churches shared the same values and dedication to Worship and Outreach.

First United Church had its origins as a downtown St. Catharines Presbyterian congregation in 1834.  In 1880 Grantham United Church, a Methodist congregation, began meeting in the north end of St. Catharines.  The congregation of Mountainview United Church began meeting in 1959 in the south end of St. Catharines.

Trillium has also welcomed people from other United Churches that have closed – Memorial, Welland Avenue, Carleton and St. Andrews.

Trillium’s community of faith now gathers at 415 Linwell Road, in the former First Grantham buildings, where we continue to welcome the community into our buildings.
