Faith on the Field: Coming Home

This Sunday, we round third and head for home as we close out our summer series, Faith on the Field.

Baseball is a strange game, if you think about it. There's no clock counting down, no rush to the finish — just innings that unfold at their own pace until the final out. Maybe that's part of why it lends itself so well to reflection. It reminds us that life isn't always a race. Sometimes the journey home matters as much as getting there.

This week we'll sit with the story of the prodigal son, another tale of leaving and returning home, and ask what it means to spend our lives searching for what we already have. We'll also revisit a moment from Blue Jays history: Game 4 of the 1992 ALCS, extra innings, and Pat Borders — not a slugger, not a headline name — lifting a sacrifice fly just deep enough to bring a runner home. Nobody remembers the out. Everybody remembers that Toronto went home a winner.

That's the heart of this final sermon: faith isn't only about finding our own way home. It's about helping each other get there through encouragement, quiet service, showing up, and all the small sacrifices that don't make headlines but win the game.

Whether you've followed the whole series or are just joining us for the finale, come explore what a glove and a Bible have in common — and ask yourself: who's helping you get home?

Peace of Christ,

Rev. Barb
