Minister's Message

Arts, Justice, and Community in Action

Heryka Miranda first came onto The United Church of Canada’s radar through The Sunflower Man, a dance piece co-created with Juan “Luis” Mendoza de la Cruz, a migrant farm worker in the Niagara Region. The project grew out of “dance for relaxation” sessions with migrant workers, offering space for movement, expression, and connection in a context where these opportunities are often limited. The work is grounded in a commitment to justice and to creating space for voices that are not always heard.

Trillium later invited Heryka to offer an initial session through Art & Soul at Trillium, where she shared some of her work.

This Sunday, she returns to facilitate an arts-based retreat for 20 women migrant workers, in partnership with Justice for Migrant Workers and Trillium. The workshop, held in Spanish in Ruby Carroll Hall, will focus on movement, art, and community.

May we hold this gathering in prayer as it takes place.

At the same time, the Trillium Outreach Team continues to support the Caribbean Workers Outreach Project. Please see the e-news for opportunities to participate, including worship, a cricket match, and a concert marking 60 years.

Finally, please note that while I am away Rev Kassandra Matthews is available while I am away for Emergency Pastoral Care.  You can contact Kassandra at rev.kassandra@gmail.com  or 289 219 3445.

Thank you for your kindness and support.

Rev. Barb
