This Sunday, September 27, we will mark Orange Shirt Sunday as we look ahead to September 30, the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day. Rev. Colleen Smith will lead us in worship that morning as we reflect on the importance of truth, reconciliation and our shared journey toward healing.

October 4th - World Communion Day

The first Sunday of October has become a time when Christians of an infinite variety of denominations all over the globe are gathering in grand cathedrals, mud huts, outside on hilltops, in meetinghouses, in storefronts, in city or rural church buildings or in their own homes to break bread and pour the cup affirming Jesus as the Christ. On that day, hands of every description, of
every colour, of every race, of every country, of every nation, will be stretched out to receive the bread and the cup. And, on that day, Christians around the world will celebrate the communion liturgy in as many ways as there are communities of faith.

With our brothers and sisters around the world we will, on Sunday, October 4th, celebrate an open, inclusive table of the Christ affirming that we are members of the worldwide Christian Church.

Leading up to next Sunday you are invited to spend the week praying for a country in the world which is not your own. Often on this occasion we celebrate the “world” in a particularly generic “global” way rather than actually thinking about real places. Choose one country to pray for – it may be in the news or may be one that you have visited or may be part of your ethnic heritage or may be one with a cuisine you find delicious or a writer or artist who inspires you. If you are unable to attend the service in the church you are invited to bless and receive the sacrament at home, For the bread please prepare a slice or small loaf of bread, corn tortilla, or rice cake and for the cup prepare a cup/glass or small cups/glasses of juice - perhaps grape or cranberry - or coffee, or coconut water all of which are used in different communities around the globe.
