Minister's Message
Last Saturday reminded me of Greg Smith Young’s service on May 25 and his fondness for convoluted road signs. Colleagues from across Horseshoe Falls Regional Council made their way to Hamilton—with “The Linc” closed. Some trusted their GPS, which insisted the road was open. Others meandered through backroads. Some did both. Yet somehow, most of us arrived at the regional meeting on time and in good humour.
We worshipped together. I always love hearing colleagues preach and lead. We covenanted with new Licensed Lay Worship Leaders and celebrated the ordination of three new ministers—each with their own voice, passion, and call. It was moving and deeply hopeful.
Lately, I’ve been noticing that sense of hope growing in our wider church. We know things are changing, but we’re learning to see those changes in light of the church’s long and faithful story. God is still guiding us, helping us discover how to serve in this new moment.
Across the country, congregations are experimenting, collaborating, and stepping beyond old boundaries. At Trillium, we’re leaning into that work too—engaging our own leadership and connecting with voices like the UCC Growth Animator and the Right Rev. Richard Bott, who help us keep listening deeply and boldly.
Like our travels to Hamilton, we may take different routes. But we go out of love for the church and the One who calls us. And along the way, grace meets us.
Join us this Sunday for a 100th Anniversary hymn sing—and stay for strawberries!
Peace be with you, Rev Barb
